Arena rock lives

MauveStröm is a Hard Rock Band from Millersville, PA. They breathe new life into arena rock favorites during their high energy live shows by utilizing vocal layering and distribution, dueling guitars, and driving rhythm section. They cover bands such as Kansas, Journey, Heart, Pat Benatar, Bon Jovi, Styx, Motley Crue, ACDC, Dokken, and Led Zepplin.

Band History

The band originated as the Mauve band in the Fall 2016, as a 7-month performance class in the Music Business Technology program at Millersville University. The band jelled instantly culminating in opening up for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts at a sold-out show at the university in the spring of 2017. Since it was a class, it disbanded shortly after the event. In the Fall of 2018, the band reformed as MauveStröm with the original guitarist Lauren Hill and original bassist Mville alum Luke Leonard. Mville alums Colin diLucido and Micheala Burns along with newcomer Elaina Hatton round out the vocalists. Steve Sammartino on Drums and Barry Gray on Keytar and Synthesizers rounds out the band.

Band Name

Keeping true from their roots of being Mauve Band, the band changed names to MauveStrom playing off Norway’s Maelstrom (Barry Gray lived in Norway). The original Maelstrom is a channel that has dangerous tidal currents located off the northwest coast of Norway. The word became popularized in the general vocabulary of English in reference to a powerful whirlpool in the 19th century. This was partly due to its use by writers such as Edgar Allan Poe and Jules Verne in stories exaggerating the tempestuousness of the Norwegian current and transforming it into a whirling vortex. This fits the band well because from their opening number to the final note, it is a vortex of sound and no oasis of ballads to rest upon.
